Interchange-plus vs flat-rate: which one you actually want

Square-style stickers are simple. They are also often expensive once volume shows up. Here is how to choose.

Flat-rate is a product, not a virtue

A single sticker is easy to sell and easy to understand. For a brand-new micro-merchant it can be fine. Once you have real volume — especially a debit-heavy counter — you are usually overpaying on the cheap cards to subsidize the expensive ones, plus the processor’s margin.

Interchange-plus is readable

You see the brand cost. You see our markup. A bookkeeper can audit it. That is why operators who have been burned by a ‘we’ll take care of it’ blended program ask for IC+ by name.

Dual pricing is the other honest structure

If you would rather not eat brand fees at all, post two prices. Cash (or debit-as-cash, depending on the program) gets the lower number. Card gets the card number. Done correctly, this is compliant and staff-simple on PayAnywhere hardware.

The decision is a statement, not a vibe
